It’s definitely not funny when you try to unlock your door and suddenly your key breaks off inside the lock. So what should you do now? How do you remove the broken key in the lock?
Before calling a professional locksmith to solve your problem, there are actually some things you can try yourself.
- If part of the key is sticking out of the lock, try pulling it out with your fingers or with a pair of needlenose pliers.
- If the key is not sticking out of the lock, try using a flathead screwdriver that fits into the keyhole. Attempt to loosen or pry the key until a part of the key sticks out, then pull it out with your fingers or a pair of needlenose pliers.
If you do not succeed in removing the broken part of the key from the lock or if you are afraid of damaging your lock in the removal process, you may just want contact your locksmith to do it for you.
