Easy Fix for Rotted Exterior Window Trim

exterior trim rotThe exterior trim surrounding your windows is one of the most vulnerable areas of your home to decay or rot fungi. The good news is wooden window trim can be relatively easily repaired, especially compared to rot-infested framing.  A tw0-part epoxy resin along with some other products available at your local hardware store,  can be used by both the experienced and the inexperienced homeowner to fix this problem.  In this article, John Stahl of Advanced Repair Technology, walks you through the steps for  removing and repairing rotted exterior trim.

Here’s a brief outline of what to do…
Step 1: Remove the rot-softened wood.
Step 2: Inject borate into holes.
Step 3: Apply epoxy primer.
Step 4: Blend the resin and hardener.
Step 5: Sculpt the epoxy.
Step 6: Paint the wood with epoxy.

To get the details of each step,  read: How to Repair Rotted Trim with Epoxy.
