Are you one of those homeowners who enters through the back door most of the time? You probably find yourself putting your packages down on the floor or on a table near the door just to be able to find your keys and make your way inside. Sometimes, you might even have to leave your packages in the car and make an extra trip to go back and get them after you have opened the door. But there’s actually a great solution to this.
A project featured at Fine Homebuilding solves this problem with a grocery shelf installed just below a window, beside the door. It’s in just about the same location as where a window plant box would be installed. The waist-level height makes the shelf comfortable for homeowners to set groceries and other baggage on while opening the door. What’s even more wonderful about this shelf is that it can be put up only when needed and then folded away when not in use. The shelf can also be painted a similar color to the wall of the house so that it doesn’t look out of place once it’s folded away.
