As most homeowners know, it is important to find out if there is a gap between your door and its threshold. A quick way to test this is to feel for moving air with your hand or simply look for daylight creeping in underneath. If you do find a draft, it’s time to raise the threshold and eliminate the gap. Here’s how to do it:

Gather your tools: You will need a basic screwdriver and a straightedge, such as a framing square or a ruler.

Adjust the threshold: Open your door and adjust the threshold height by turning the screws. Use your straightedge across the top to ensure you are keeping the threshold completely level as you adjust it.

Test the fit: Periodically close the door and check to see if any light is visible between the door and the threshold.

Fine-tune: If you still see light, open the door and continue adjusting the screws to raise the threshold until no gap can be seen. Be careful not to raise it so high that the door rubs or becomes difficult to close.
