Removing Mold and Mildew from Exterior Doors

Photo of a Door

Mold and mildew are caused by excess moisture in an area, and if not removed, they can spread very easily. Mold and mildew also produce a bad smell and can cause allergies and respiratory problems for homeowners.

To remove mold and mildew from doors, use a solution composed of 1/3 cup of powdered laundry soap, 2/3 cup of trisodium phosphate, 1 quart of bleach, and 3 quarts of water.  Apply the solution to the affected area using a soft bristle brush, and then rinse with clean water.

If your door is made of wood, make a solution composed of 5 tablespoons of washing soda and 1 gallon of water. Dip a soft cloth in the solution and wipe it over the affected area. Rinse with cool water and wait for it to dry. Once the surface has dried, polish or wax the wood.
