Double- or triple-pane sealed windows are popular because of their energy-efficient properties. They help block heat transfer through your windows. However, just like your roof, your door, and other windows, the seals on double- and triple-pane windows do not last forever. Although it should take years for this to happen, here are some helpful tips on detecting and addressing failed window seals:
- Detect a failed seal using the “feel test,” which involves touching the surface of the glass to determine if much heat is being transferred through the window.
- A seal has failed if fogging or condensation has occurred in between the window glass panes.
- You can address failed seals in the following ways: have a glazier replace the affected glass, simply ignore the failed seal if you do not live in an area with an extreme climate, or replace the windows if lower-cost options do not work for you.
