Window Cleaning Issues and Some Simple Solutions

Windows, blinds, shades, and screens are not that simple to clean, and sometimes they require more than just spritzing and wiping. There are also times when you encounter other problems and additional cleaning measures are required. 

Here are some window cleaning issues and their clever solutions:

Issue #1: Streaks on windows after cleaning
Solution:  Use a window squeegee with a smooth, soft rubber edge. Try to avoid washing in direct sunlight.

Issue #2: Blinds collect dust easily
Solution: Use anti-static spray on blinds after cleaning them.

Issue #3: Mildew on window frames
Solution: Wash frames with a bleach-detergent solution.

Issue #4: Exterior window sills get dirty easily
Solution: Wipe window sills with a coat of clear floor wax to keep them protected.

Issue #5: Dirty window shades
Solution: Dust the window shade regularly with a soft cloth, a duster, or a vacuum.  If it is stained, you may need to wash the shade.

Issue #6: Windows get dirty easily
Solution: Change the filter in your heating and cooling system as it will help trap dust, pollen, and other particles at home.

Issue #7: Grime on windows from second-hand smoke
Solution: Wash your windows with an ammonia solution.

Issue #8: Dirty window screens
Solution: Remove window screens and wash with warm or hot water and dishwashing detergent using a soft-bristled brush.
