Understanding Awning Windows

There are many different types of windows you can install in your home. All windows have their pros and cons, and there are many factors to consider before deciding on which type to install, such as window size, climate, and more. Additionally, some window types work better depending on the room conditions, including available space. If you are considering installing awning windows, here is some vital information to help you understand more about them:

  • Awning windows are fitted with a lever in the middle of the bottom rail that you can use to open and close the sash tightly against the frame.
  • Even though you cannot open awning windows entirely, they are ideal for ventilation even when it’s raining, since the sashes act as canopies to keep the rain out.
  • They are more-energy efficient compared to sliding windows, since they provide an airtight seal as you close them, resulting in less air leakage.
  • Awning windows also have excellent weather tightness because of the continuous seal around the sash or frame.
  • Cleaning the outer pane of awning windows needs to be done from the outside, unless the top part of the sash slides down.
  • The moving parts, such as hinges and cranks, may need repair sooner or later.
  • Window screens can be installed on the inside of awning windows.
  • Awning windows are not suitable for homes with tight external space.
